Frequently Asked Questions

Your house has got to be super minimal and tidy and perfect all the time, right? I bet you’ll be horrified when you see my mess!

Wrooong! I have plenty of my own struggles with clutter, order, and sometimes holding on to more things than really make sense given my home’s size. I love this work because *I can relate* to your situation! I am a naturally messy person. And I believe that normal life just *is* messy a lot of the time! I just happen have some extra tips and tricks and perspective to bring from my many years of doing this, that can help you hack the natural entropy that comes with being a human on planet earth and living in our material-object-abundant culture.

And – I promise you I have seen it all. There is no way your situation can scare me.

Do I need to be there when you work? Do I need to work with you?

Not necessarily! With many clients, we work closely together, deciding what to keep, how best to store things, and come up with solutions together.

For some kinds of projects I prefer that we work together, because often when we go through your things together, you decide to let go of a lot, and I’d rather not organize a bunch of things that it turns out you’d rather not keep! And I can’t make those decisions for you.

However! With some less personal spaces, and with strictly organizing and not decluttering tasks, like a pantry where you know you’d like to keep all the contents except for what is expired, you can leave for work and I can take it from messy to beautiful all on my own!

A hybrid plan works well in many situations, where I do lots of preliminary sorting without you, and then we do intermittent check-ins for you to say yes or no to a list of items in question (Do you want all 4 lemon squeezers? If you want to keep just two, which two? How often do you use your pasta maker? Is it ok if I make a home for it in the pantry instead of your gadget drawer?) This can be done via texts, pictures, or  quick video calls if you are off site or working in your home office while I work.

Do you clean as well?

A little! Wild Welcome is not a cleaning service, but my work certainly may involve some cleaning as we go as needed, or to polish up a job. Just finished a kid’s bedroom or playroom? I might vacuum to give it the finish it deserves! Organizing kitchen or pantry shelves? I’ll certainly wipe them clean before putting items back on a shelf that had crumbs or drops from your vinegar bottles and honey. :)

If you would like to hire someone to do a full-on cleaning job in your home, I have recommendations for people who do that work well!

Do you travel?

Sure, for a fee!

Anything within 25 miles of downtown Knoxville is included in my normal travel time, and outside of that I charge:

$15 per session for destinations with driving distances 25-35 miles out of town,

$25 for  35-45 miles out of town,

And so on.

Moving out of state and want my help on the other end? Have a second home you’d like assistance organizing, or a far away family member you’d like to support with my work? I’m sure we could make arrangements. Let’s talk!

Do you bring organizational materials with you? What if I need baskets and bins and new containers for the space we are working on?

In many cases, we don’t need anything more than what you already have on hand in your house! There’s a kind of magic that comes from examining all your possessions, discarding what is no longer useful, and organizing what’s left. Often, a number of containers you already own will become freed up in the process, and you will have all you need to make a new orderly system!

But sometimes, a few more things do help. You are more than welcome to shop ahead of time to have things on hand (just save those receipts! It’s a good idea to buy extra, and various sizes, and then return what’s not needed!)

If you don’t feel like you know what’s out there, or you hate shopping, you can bring me in for this part of the job as well! We can video chat before I come so that I can get an idea of the space and the items, and send you some options to choose from before I go fetch them at the store.
